Business & profitability
How the math works
Why revenue and profit are different numbers
Revenue is what a buyer pays you. Profit is what's left after everything it cost to make that sale. On a resale, that means what you paid for the item, the selling fees, and shipping.
In this example, a reseller sells an item for $50 that they bought for $20. After $7 in selling fees and $6 in shipping, they keep $17, about a third of the price.
| Sale price | $50 |
|---|---|
| What you paid for the item | − $20 |
| Selling fees | − $7 |
| Shipping | − $6 |
| Profit | $17 |
