How to start selling on Teachers Pay Teachers
TPT's terms limit membership to people 18 or older, and TPT can ask for proof of age or identity at any time and close or suspend an account it can't verify. The sell page asks for original educational materials and lists no teacher credential, Social Security number or approval wait. TPT's current sign-up page invites new sellers to join and offers Basic or Exclusive. The older sign-up help article is undated and still mentions Premium, so follow the newer page where the two differ.

TPT's seller blog (Sep 2024) says you may use third-party elements through a commercial license, fair use, public domain or written permission. Fonts and clip art bought from other TPT sellers often include a commercial license, but terms vary, and TPT recommends a credits page. For trademarked content, the owner's brand guidelines apply, and TPT suggests asking the owner if you are unsure.

The seller figures are TPT's own claims, reported by EdSurge in Nov 2022: the average comes from an EdSurge interview with TPT's CEO, and the totals are company counts. EdSurge notes that top-seller success stories are not representative of typical sellers. TPT doesn't publish current typical or median seller earnings. The lesson count, from TPT's homepage, measures the size of the marketplace, not what sellers earn.
Teachers Pay Teachers Exclusive Seller membership (replacing Premium)
From Jan 1, 2027, Exclusive Seller pays you 77.5% of each sale for an annual fee of $59.95, against the 80% Premium Sellers keep until then. TPT's seller blog says it made the change because more TPT resources are being sold on other sites. Chalkbeat reported that critics and a petition opposed the changes.
Exclusive Sellers must sell eligible digital education resources only through TPT. You may still promote elsewhere and keep your own site, as long as Buy buttons link to TPT and the purchase is processed there. Digital education resources, memberships that include them, and licenses can't be sold off TPT. Physical products, courses and professional development, Boom Cards, Kindle books and non-education digital items such as clip art and fonts can.
Teachers Pay Teachers AI-generated resource policy
Chalkbeat reported on Oct 15, 2026 that TPT plans to ban AI-generated resources, and a TPT spokesperson said seller material should be AI-free. Chalkbeat calls the policy forthcoming. TPT is building tools to detect and remove AI-generated resources, and no policy text or effective date is published. TPT's Seller Guidelines already require original work.
How to earn more on Teachers Pay Teachers
TPT's seller blog recommends descriptive product titles so your resources show up in buyer searches. It cites TPT's own buyer survey, in which 62% said thorough previews most influence purchase (no sample stated).
Can Teachers Pay Teachers suspend your seller account?
TPT's terms publish no appeal process for an account closure, and a closed account is no longer eligible for membership. You are responsible for all activity under your account, authorized or not.
After a valid copyright notice, TPT contacts you, forwards the notice and removes the resource immediately. If you don't file a counter-notice, TPT refunds buyers who bought the resource in the past year five business days later. The money comes from your current or future TPT earnings, not your PayPal or bank account, and if the refunds exceed your next payout, TPT keeps withholding from later months until they're covered.
A counter-notice is a legal claim under penalty of perjury and may lead to a lawsuit, and misrepresentation may create liability. If the rightsholder sues within ten days, TPT removes the resource from buyers and refunds them. Otherwise it reinstates the resource with no refunds.
Is Teachers Pay Teachers legit?
Teacher Synergy LLC runs TPT from San Mateo, California, and IXL Learning owns it: K-12 Dive reported the acquisition in March 2023. TPT's terms include binding arbitration and a class action waiver.

Taxes on Teachers Pay Teachers income
TPT's terms say sellers are responsible for their own taxes and TPT can't give tax advice. For the 2025 period (Dec 1, 2024 to Nov 30, 2025), TPT says 1099-Ks went out by Jan 31, 2026 in Hyperwallet, where it collects a W-9. See taxes on side income.
On sales tax, TPT says it collects and remits in marketplace facilitator states and some voluntary states, and many states don't tax electronic items. Elsewhere you can opt in for TPT to collect, but you must remit it yourself. Even where TPT remits, you may still need to register with states, such as your home state. TPT isn't responsible for the accuracy of seller-provided sales tax calculations.
Teachers Pay Teachers vs other places to sell digital resources
TPT's Become a Seller page lists no exclusivity requirement for Basic, though TPT's Seller Guidelines bar charging more on TPT for a resource offered free or cheaper elsewhere. For how the two routes work together, see selling lesson plans on Teachers Pay Teachers.
Teachers Pay Teachers questions
TPT's help center points to its automated TPT Bot (the question-mark icon), which can help send an email to the Customer Experience team. Copyright and trademark notices go to copyright@teacherspayteachers.com, which TPT reserves for formal notices only. Other questions go through the support contact form.
Send it to TPT's designated agent; replying to TPT's removal email works. It must include a good-faith statement under penalty of perjury, your contact information, consent to federal court jurisdiction and your signature. Trademark-only notices have a separate counter-notice process.
Yes. TPT's Exclusive Seller rules (Oct 2026) say free resources may be offered on and off TPT. You can't charge on TPT for something you offer free elsewhere.
