Is Awin worth it for affiliate publishers?

Awin is a network, so you apply to advertiser brands one program at a time. It makes the most sense if you already have an audience to send to several brands and can wait on advertiser approval before money reaches you.

How much Awin takes from your pay

The one charge Awin describes at sign-up is a refundable deposit. Awin's current U.S. FAQ puts it at $1, used to verify your bank details. An older Awin guide, last modified in October 2024, says $5. Awin's help center says that if your application is rejected, the deposit can be refunded to your card through a contact request, and that it is not refunded automatically.

How and when Awin pays you

Most of your wait comes from advertiser approval, not from the bank. Awin's help center says each advertiser sets its own validation timeline and that Awin shows an average, not a set timeframe. Some advertisers use auto-validation, so a transaction they leave undecided is approved automatically after a fixed period. An older, undated Awin training page puts average approval at 30 to 45 days and says approved sales stay Uncleared until the advertiser pays Awin. Awin's help center says approved commissions become payable after Awin's payment processing, then go out in the next payment run.

Awin pays twice a month. The minimum for U.S. dollar payments is $20 (or $50 if you set no threshold), it must be met by the 15th or the last day of the month, and smaller balances roll over. Awin's payment page says the payment on the 1st covers earnings approved up to the 15th of the prior month. The payment on the 15th covers earnings approved through the end of the prior month. A sale approved just after a cutoff therefore lands in the following run.

Awin requirements and how long approval takes

Awin says it accepts all site types as long as the site can link to an advertiser, and every applicant goes through its compliance team. Awin says a website is not required if you have an audience and a way to share affiliate links. Awin's privacy policy says application data goes through automated fraud-detection checks that use third-party providers who use AI.

Joining is two steps. Awin approves you to the network, then you apply to each advertiser program. Awin says advertisers control who promotes them and can approve publishers manually and set campaign-specific terms, so network approval does not mean every brand accepts you.

If you used ShareASale, Awin says only some publishers were upgraded automatically: those approved by its Network Quality team who registered after January 2023, were click or sale active since January 1, 2024, or had five or more approved partnerships. Others had to register directly. For those upgraded, Awin says you don't need to swap tracking links or re-join advertisers, and that you are emailed when the upgrade begins and again when the new account is ready. ShareASale payment statements can no longer be retrieved after the closure.

Other figures

The only dollar figure Awin gives is a global total across all publishers, which says nothing about what one publisher earns. Awin states that earnings depend on individual factors, gives no typical or average amount, and claims no cap. Awin says commission size depends on engagement, traffic, product type and the advertisers you partner with, so rates vary by program. Awin says most active influencers receive a first commission payment soon after joining, with no number or sample behind it. Awin also says it connects 30K+ brands and 1M+ approved partners worldwide, figures that aren't specific to the U.S.

Can Awin suspend your account?

Awin's Code of Conduct sets sanctions that run from warnings and commission forfeiture to suspension, termination and network bans. Its rules cover misleading consumers, misrepresenting your location, misusing tracking links and spam. The Code says its list of breaches isn't complete, and breaking its spirit counts too. It also requires you to respond to Awin and advertiser information requests and to stop activity when asked.

Browser extension and coupon tools face specific rules. Per the Code, they must stand down when a user arrived through another Awin publisher, and may not auto-activate cashback without explicit user interaction.

Advertisers can also decline individual commissions. Awin's help center, in advertiser-facing guidance, lists cancelled or returned orders, wrong marketing source, program-terms violations and fraud as valid reasons.

Is Awin legit?

Awin says it is part of the Axel Springer group. The dated events below cover its 2017 purchase of ShareASale and that platform's closure, which changed how former ShareASale publishers log in and get paid.

Taxes on Awin income

Awin's U.S. tax FAQ says U.S. publishers must provide a W-9 confirming their tax status and taxpayer identification number.

Awin vs other affiliate networks

Awin approves you once to the network, then each advertiser decides separately, so the comparison turns on which brands you want to promote. See how it lines up with Impact and the others below.

When you get paid is when each platform pays out. Bank transfers can add a few days, depending on your bank and payout method.
