Is Swagbucks worth it for survey takers and rewards-site members?

Swagbucks lists search, shopping rebates, receipts, games, offers and surveys as ways to earn SB. Whether it fits depends on how you plan to earn and how you handle tracking and account risk.

Swagbucks makes sense if

Does Swagbucks charge a fee?

Swagbucks says rewards can be taken as PayPal cash or gift cards. It states the minimum generally rather than by option, and a sidehustles.com review says the minimum and SB cost vary by option. Check the exact amount on the reward you choose before you count on the lowest figure. Processing times come from Swagbucks' Help Center redemption article, which also says options vary by region, account status and availability.

Also required

Multiple accounts risk deactivation

Sharing an account within a household counts as having multiple accounts.

The bigger hurdle is survey screening. Swagbucks says surveys disqualify members when demographics don't match the target group or responses are inconsistent, and that conflicting answers to repeated questions disqualify you. It also says a disqualification isn't a completed credit when you don't meet the criteria. Separately, Swagbucks lists false information, speeding, multiple accounts, repeat completion, link sharing and under-13 registration as conduct that forfeits SB and may close the account.

How much you can make on Swagbucks

Swagbucks' help page gives no per-task rates or hourly figure, and no independent study with a stated sample measures typical monthly or hourly pay. A 2026 sidehustles.com review reports what one tester earned, and says that's all it is. To turn any survey or offer into an hourly rate, count the unpaid minutes too, as in how to calculate your actual hourly earnings.

Can Swagbucks deactivate your account?

Yes. Swagbucks' list of causes includes multiple accounts, unnatural searching or clicking, bots or fraud software, and posting content that encourages violating its terms. It says sharing an account within a household counts as multiple accounts. Losing an account has a cost: all unredeemed SB are permanently cancelled and support cannot restore them. You can ask to re-open the account, but it may have 0 SB.

Swagbucks' help pages describe a support ticket as the route, not a separate appeal process. It says opening Get Help, then Contact Customer Support, from your account activity is the preferred way to open a ticket, and offer and shop issues must go through it. The same page lists up to 30 business days for account issues, including deactivation, and also lists a first response within 1 day.

If an offer or shopping reward doesn't credit, Swagbucks says to re-read the offer terms, check your Visited and Pending entries, then contact support. It says tracking can be blocked or interrupted, and that if the merchant didn't credit Swagbucks because tracking failed, it generally can't issue the reward.

Is Swagbucks legit?

Swagbucks is owned by Prodege, an El Segundo, California company that also owns MyPoints, dot.LA reported in May 2020 when Prodege bought Upromise from Sallie Mae. Swagbucks doesn't name its operator on its help pages.

Scams that use Swagbucks' name

Swagbucks warned in August 2025 that scam texts impersonate it. Swagbucks lists no joining fee, so treat any request to pay to join as a red flag. For general warning signs, see how to spot side-hustle scams.

Taxes on Swagbucks income

Swagbucks says tax information is required at $600 in redemptions per calendar year and that it files a 1099 with the IRS. It classes surveys, search, registration and referral, and most games as taxable activities. Shopping, Gambit, GSN and in-store deals are not taxable, and redeeming a lot from non-taxable activities doesn't trigger the form.

Swagbucks vs other get-paid-to and survey sites

Swagbucks spreads across several ways to earn, so a site built around one of them may suit you better. For surveys, see paid online surveys; for offers and games, see get-paid-to sites.

When you get paid is when each platform pays out. Bank transfers can add a few days, depending on your bank and payout method.
