Is Outdoorsy worth it for RV and trailer owners?

Outdoorsy pays you only for nights that get booked.

How much Outdoorsy takes from your pay

Outdoorsy charges owners 20% to 25% of the booking subtotal, which includes cleaning, delivery and add-on fees but not taxes. When a brand-new guest books through your own quote, it drops to 6.5%. The subtotal includes what you charge for cleaning, delivery and add-ons, so Outdoorsy's cut applies to those too. Outdoorsy doesn't publish the revenue tiers at which your rate falls, so you can't work out when it will drop. Renters pay a separate service fee on top of the booking, and that fee doesn't come out of your payout. Outdoorsy's Service Fees page says you can see the fee for each booking on its reservation page.

Outdoorsy requirements and how long approval takes

Outdoorsy's services are for people 18 or older, and renters must be at least 21 to drive a vehicle. Outdoorsy doesn't publish an approval wait in days. ID verification runs through Persona and must be finished before you can accept bookings. A listing can go live while your tax status shows Pending, as long as you've submitted the info. New hosts can't accept a booking without tax info and a connected bank account.

The listing form asks for the RV year as shown on its title or registration, and for the month your insurance renews. Outdoorsy says protection plan eligibility depends on vehicle age, type and value, at its sole discretion, and plans are offered only where coverage is legally permitted. It doesn't publish a maximum vehicle age. You must also hand keys only to a Verified Driver, or coverage is denied.

How much you can make on Outdoorsy

Outdoorsy publishes a marketing claim about what owners can earn and a table of listed nightly rates. Neither is a measurement of what owners take home.

Earnings figures

Per year

  • $30,000

Owner earnings per year, up to

    Outdoorsy

Per night

Outdoorsy says owners can earn up to the figure shown, which is a maximum claim and not an average. The nightly rates come from Outdoorsy's renter-facing cost guide, which says rates vary by market, age and season: summer and holiday weekends run higher, and late fall and early spring run cheaper. A nightly rate isn't monthly income, because it ignores how many nights you book, the owner fee, cleaning, insurance and wear. Outdoorsy doesn't publish average owner income, average booked nights or the share of owners with no bookings, and no independent measurement with a stated sample is available. For the wider picture, see renting out your RV.

Can Outdoorsy deactivate your account?

Outdoorsy's terms let it cancel any booking at any time. Moving a booking off-platform lets it deny protections on that booking and terminate your account. No appeal process is published. Outdoorsy says its decisions on deposit disputes and claims are final, and disputes with Outdoorsy go to binding arbitration with a class-action waiver.

The protection package is sold to guests. Outdoorsy's protection terms say it is not an insurer, and coverage determinations require pre-trip photos within 24 hours, post-trip photos within 48 hours and an in-app key exchange. The exclusions go beyond lost income: unauthorized festivals such as Burning Man, salvage-title vehicles, and personal property and add-ons are also excluded.

The guest's security deposit is applied to the deductible after your deductions, and Outdoorsy sets deposit minimums at $500 for most RVs and $1,500 for Class A. If the deposit falls short, the guest owes the rest, and you have to pursue it. Outdoorsy's terms say damage not noted on the departure checklist is the renter's responsibility, so the Vehicle Departure Checklist you and the guest sign at key exchange matters.

Is Outdoorsy legit?

Outdoorsy's terms name Outdoorsy, Inc. as the contracting party. Outdoorsy says its headquarters is in Austin, Texas, and describes Outdoorsy Group as owner of the marketplace and of insurtech Roamly. Carrier Management reported in June 2021 that the company raised a $90 million equity round and a $30 million debt facility. In June 2026 its CEO announced a rebrand of the company as The Ride Platform, while the consumer brand remains Outdoorsy. Texas Monthly reports the company entered the sharing economy in 2015, and other sources give earlier years.
