Is UserTesting worth it for user testers?
UserTesting pays per test through PayPal, and the amount isn't set in advance. It shows in your test feed before you accept.
UserTesting makes sense if
You prefer short, self-paced sessions
You will keep your quality high to earn more invitations
Choose another platform if
You need money within a week
You need steady, predictable work
You want a way to challenge account decisions
How much UserTesting takes from your pay
UserTesting says contributors do not pay to become one, and its application checklist lists no fee. It doesn't publish its cut of what a customer pays, what a customer pays per session, or how your reward is worked out from that price. What you see is the reward on each test before you accept it. To turn that into an hourly rate, count the unpaid minutes too, as in how to calculate your actual hourly earnings.
UserTesting fees
- Cost to apply
The application checklist is email, PayPal, profile and an unpaid practice test. UserTesting publishes no tester fee.
How and when UserTesting pays you
UserTesting pays only through PayPal, and the payment follows the customer's review of your test. The customer can approve or cancel, and if they do nothing the payment is approved on its own. An older help page from April 2025 counts the wait from the upload instead of the completion, so the starting point may differ slightly. Live Conversations pay more than other tests, but UserTesting publishes no dollar amount or multiple for them. Their length is 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes, and the amount is shown in the Test Feed.

UserTesting requirements and how long approval takes
UserTesting publishes no approval time in days. After you are approved, its Quality Team reviews your first test before you can take more, and tests are mostly launched during U.S. business hours, Monday to Friday. You must be at least 18. The application includes an unpaid practice test that needs a microphone, and you see paid tests only after finishing the whole checklist. A rejected applicant can reapply once.

Mobile applicants and testers must download the UserTesting app before testing.

Required for the practice test and most tests.
- Tests and screening
You see tests only after finishing the whole applicant checklist.
How much you can make on UserTesting
UserTesting publishes no dollar range per test and no average or median earnings, so there is nothing to convert into a monthly figure.
Figures UserTesting publishes
Per week
Tests per week for most contributors
The one figure is UserTesting's own claim that most contributors take one or two tests per week, and it publishes no sample or method for it. UserTesting also says the number of opportunities fluctuates daily, depends largely on customer needs, and depends on whether your demographic profile and background fit the test. Its sign-up page markets the work as a way to "boost your monthly income" without giving a number. Higher customer ratings bring more invitations, according to UserTesting.
Can UserTesting deactivate your account?
Yes. The contributor terms let UserTesting end access at any time for any reason, and they describe no appeal process. The terms show a last-updated date of July 2, 2021. Restricted activities such as multiple accounts, sharing a login, inaccurate information or screenshots of tests can forfeit rewards and lead to suspension or termination.
Payments can be canceled without a deactivation. UserTesting says a Canceled status means the customer couldn't use the feedback. Listed reasons include sharing the wrong screen, audio or video problems, a profile or screener mismatch, and skipped or off-topic answers. Customers can also request refunds for tests they find unsatisfactory. UserTesting itself may cancel payments for account issues such as duplicate accounts or serious, repeated profile mismatches.
If you think a cancellation is a mistake, check your test History for Quality Team feedback, then chat with the Edison virtual assistant, which escalates to Support. No formal appeal or deadline is stated. Disputes go to support first, then to binding individual arbitration with a class action waiver.
Missing a Live Conversation without canceling counts as a no-show, which UserTesting says can affect payment and future sessions. It publishes no numeric threshold for repeated no-shows.
Is UserTesting legit?
UserTesting was listed on the NYSE from November 2021 until Thoma Bravo and Sunstone Partners completed their acquisition in January 2023, and it is now privately owned. Its privacy policy says it doesn't sell personal information. Its September 2026 privacy policy names UserZoom Technologies, Inc. as the group's parent, and in late September 2026 the company rebranded its corporate name to Auros, keeping UserTesting as the product brand.

Scams that use UserTesting's name
The FTC says honest employers never ask you to pay to get a job, and it describes fake check scams that ask you to deposit a check and send part of it back. For a wider checklist, see how to spot side-hustle scams.
Taxes on UserTesting income
UserTesting doesn't withhold taxes. Its terms say contributors are not employees, are responsible for their own taxes, and may need to provide a W-9.
UserTesting vs other user testing sites
UserTesting publishes no per-test dollar range, so check what each competing site states on pay and approval before you spread your time across several. For how the work compares overall, see paid website and app user testing.

UserTesting questions
No. UserTesting's Code of Conduct bans AI-generated responses. It also requires one account, an accurate profile, accurate location and your own PayPal account. UserTesting may remove accounts it finds in violation of the Agreement.
No. UserTesting's terms require you to keep customer test information confidential and disclose it only to UserTesting or the customer. Screenshots of tests are listed as a restricted activity that can forfeit rewards and lead to suspension. Recordings of UserTesting-developed tests may be shown publicly, and you can opt out.
UserTesting says never to share Social Security numbers, card numbers or passwords, and advises closing sensitive information before sharing your screen. It says customers need your consent for sensitive information, and that you can decline or exit a test without losing invites.
