What Shopify costs sellers
You pay Shopify a plan fee, and Shopify Payments takes a card rate from each sale. The plan fee rises on bigger plans while the card rate falls. If you take payments through another provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own transaction fee to each sale, and that fee also falls as the plan rises.

How and when Shopify pays you
Shopify says settlement time varies with your account's risk level. New sellers start with a longer one that can fall to the minimum as they fulfill orders on time, and Shopify Support can't shorten it on request. Weekends and holidays don't count toward settlement time. If Shopify holds a payout while it reviews your account, it tells the store owner in the admin or by email.

How to get approved on Shopify
Shopify's terms let it reject an application or cancel an account for any reason, at its sole discretion. To take payments through Shopify Payments, you also pass an identity check: if the IRS can't verify your SSN or ITIN, Shopify asks you to correct it and can ask for a photo ID.
After approval, Shopify's acceptable use policy says it gives notice and a chance to fix a problem, acts on individual products first and treats account-level action as a last resort. It names defrauding Shopify, other merchants or buyers, and sending spam, as conduct it won't tolerate. Shopify's reserves page says a reserve can follow a risk assessment, and lists elevated chargebacks, an increased refund rate and significant volume surges among the indicators. Reserve funds no longer needed for refunds or disputes are returned in full when the period ends.
